Where to get your run on in Savannah!

Hey Y’all, I’m Victoria from Victoria Runs and I am so excited that my friends at Visit Savannah are sharing their portion of the blogosphere with me today!

Living in the Low Country, we have a plethora of choices on where to run and train. If you want to run at the beach, by the marsh, in Historic Downtown, winding neighborhoods, or in the countryside; take your pick, we have it!

My two favorite runs are easily accessible to our visitors of Savannah. If you are staying in a downtown hotel near Bay Street, you’re in luck. I like to use the ‘gold dome’ as a reference. This quick route will take you through our history, architecture, and some cute boutiques that you will want to visit once you are done running! Want more mileage; just add an extra loop or two around Forsyth Park. I like to head up Drayton and come back on Bull St.

My next favorite will involve a short drive towards Tybee Islands. Hop onto Islands Expressway and head to US-17. Let the wind blow in your hair and in no time, you will find yourself at Fort Pulaski. Park just outside the gate and lace up! If you want to run twelve miles that day, run all the way to the end. You will be in for a treat! Get out there early and you will see the sunrise over the palms. Breathtaking!

If you want a good six mile run, stop at the clearing with the porta potties. And, yes, last time I used them they were stocked and clean. Hopefully you have the same experience if you need it. Remember to bring water out for this run—the sun can be quite brutal. But the views along the water are great and so are the little crabs that run away as your feet pitter patter.

Wondering where our residents get hill training done? Head to River Street, find a friendly staircase and do repeats. Just make sure you have your sneakers on and not your high heels ;) Want another challenge? Join us in December for the Enmark Savannah Bridge Run. Set out to conquer the 5k, 10k, or 15k race over the bridge. And yes, the 15k is three times over the South’s Toughest Bridge.

Hope some of these runs will help keep you sweating some on your vacation, while you enjoy Savannah and all of our hospitality! Come join me sometime at Victoria Runs and hey, if you are in town—let us know by using the #runsav or #RnRSav hashtag on Twitter, we’d love to see you out there running!

About Victoria:
I’m a transplant to Savannah via Portland, OR via Key West, FL via Northern Virginia via Long Island, New York. Yep, a bona fide Yankee living in the South. But as my mama says, I was educated below the Mason Dixon line! I moved to Savannah about five years and have not looked back. I am currently a mentor with Fleet Feet’s CREW for the Half Marathon group training for Rock n Roll Savannah, as well as, participating in other community non-profits. And while not running or cross training, I spend my 9-5 in Sales and all my other time with my amazing husband and our dog!
